John Fifer, MD

John Fifer, MD received his bachelor of science degree from the University of Florida, where he was the number one graduating senior and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He received his medical degree from the University of South Florida College of Medicine, Tampa, Florida, in 1976. Dr. Fifer performed his internship at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia.
Following his medical training, Dr. Fifer joined the United States Public Health Service as a general medical practitioner in rural North Carolina. After his public health service, he attended his orthopaedic surgery residency at the Medical College of Virginia, where he did extensive research and procedures on hip and knee replacement and arthroscopic surgery.

Osteoporosis screening is performed to measure bone density. The screening is a painless, noninvasive 3 minute procedure, in which a measurement of your bone density mineral is produced in order to help assess your risk of osteoporosis. Results from your test will be explained to you by one of our doctors.

The Joint Replacement Center offers our patients the option of diagnosis through the use of the E-scan, a dedicated open MRI system. Magnetic Resonance Imaging or MRI gives doctors a way of looking inside your body without x-rays.
